Why I love blogging about frugal living
Yesterday I was all *WOMP womp* about being stressed about blogging.
Not today, though!
Today, I want to tell you all about why I love having a frugal living blog.
I can inspire and encourage people
When I started this blog back in September, my goal was to share money-saving ideas and show how excited I am about saving money. When comments started trickling in, and people started telling me that I helped them save a little money, or offered a little encouragement, that meant so much to me. It still does. I love celebrating victories with you–big and small. I feel honored that my blog can inspire people, and I hope that can continue.
Reader feedback keeps me encouraged and inspired
I love hearing from you! I try to respond to all e-mail messages (if I haven’t, I’m sorry! I’ll try to do better in the future). If you took the time to e-mail me, the least I can do is e-mail ya back! I don’t respond to as many post comments as I would like, but that’s something I’d like to work on improving.
The stories, tips, and other blogs you’ve shared with me have helped me learn so much. You’ve shown me how I can improve. You’ve helped me save even more money. And your feedback is so uplifting for me. I’ll always be a blogger, because I get so much out of my readers. I don’t think I could ever walk away from that.
Some of you might recall that I have a background in newspapers. Lemme tell ya, you don’t get positive feedback everyday as a reporter or editor. You’ll be lucky if you get one "good job" every few months. Occasionally (or more often, depending on your reporting beat), you’ll have to deal with angry readers. When I was the editor of my campus newspaper, we had a man threaten the physical safety of the newsroom and its employees. We had people scream obscenities at us, call us terrible names, and all kinds of assorted ridiculous. That can get you down at times.
At my internship last summer, I went the entire 13 weeks without a "well done" or any kind of feedback (good or bad) from my editors. Not fun.
On the other end of the spectrum is the friendly frugal blogosphere. On my blog and many other frugal blogs I’ve come across, the tone is positive for the most part. Commenters on most blogs are supportive and encouraging. It’s amazing!
Blogging keeps me accountable
If I have a bad week and spend twice my normal grocery budget, I tell ya about it. I like to be honest with you, because I believe you deserve nothing less. If I start to get off track, I know that I can blog about it, hold myself accountable, and know that I’m accountable with you guys.
It keeps me focused
Maintaining my blog helps me stay focused on my overall goals of living a frugal, happy life. What more can I say?
I learn new things
If it weren’t for other frugal bloggers, I never would have known the amazing deals to be had at the drugstores. I wouldn’t know about great sales, freebies, coupons, money-making opportunities, tips & tricks, recipies, books, craft ideas….the list goes on and on. I’ve already learned a ton, and I know there’s a lot more to soak up.
It’s a team effort
My husband, Shane, helps with my blog so much. I bounce post ideas off of him, he gives me ideas, he helps with marketing this site, technical things, and he’s been known to write an occasional guest post or two. It’s a lot of fun having a hobby to share with someone I love.
Earning a tiny bit of money
I don’t ever expect to make a big chunk of change from blogging. But, as I’ve said, blogging has helped me learn how to save even more money. A penny saved is worth more than a penny earned, ya know.
Still, I’m on track for earning a small amount from affiliate links and advertisements, and that’s a cool thing.
Finally, I love my frugal living blog because it’s fun! Most of the time, it is a fun hobby. What can I say…I just love it to bits!
If you’ve considered starting a blog, why not give it a shot? And, please let me know if you do, so I can be sure to pay ya a visit over there. You just might discover many unexpected benefits of being a blogger.
If you’re a blogger, why do you like it?
