On the waiting list for a birth center :/

I thought my health insurance didn’t cover the area birth center here. Turns out, they do. I had to make calls to both the birth center and my insurance company to make sure — and yep! So I was really excited about switching.

But, I must have waited too long. They are at capacity for December due-date mothers. I am #3 on the waiting list. Phooey!

I realized that all of my birthing preferences (previous post) were standard procedure at the birth center. That would be much less stress on me and Shane!

I have a prenatal appointment with my original midwife group tomorrow and I will hopefully have time to discuss all of my preferences. I hope they will have a favorable reaction to all of them.

Still don’t want a home birth, and there are no other birth centers around. Oh well — we can make it work!

  1. Oh, I hope that the birth center works out for you! It sounds like it would be a good fit.

  2. oh I hope it works out for you! I talked to the nurse practitioner at my dr’s office and got really discouraged. it sounds like the only way they will let me deliver is flat on my back in the bed. She said I can labor how I want, but when it comes to delivering I’ll need to be on the bed. she also told me that midwives weren’t educated enough that’s why their practice didn’t have any. I laughed in her face. whoops, guess she knows my feelings on that. (I did go on to tell her that I had a midwife with my last pregnancy and a dr for my first but I completely preferred the midwife)

So looks like I’ll be talking to a dr next time and making sure they’ll at least let me labor how I want! the sad thing is they are my only option for the close hospital, and I’ve heard bad things about the other 2 hospitals that are “near” me. with my quick labors I’d hate to try to drive an hour away…

  3. Oh I’m sorry!! I’m birthing at a great hospital and can pretty much do anything I want during labor. Also, we can do what we want with the baby, they strongly encourage rooming in and breastfeeding. I really hope it works out for you!!!
