Bible in 90 Days!?

I’ve set out to read the Bible, cover to cover, in 90 days. The reading plan is outlined here. Bloggers will start to blog their way through the reading (just posting some general reactions, devotionals, and keeping each other accountable) but that isn’t set to begin until July 5.

I didn’t want to wait that long!

So I’ve signed up for email messages from this web site. I’m only on day 10, but it’s going better than I thought.

Some days, the reading just takes me 30 minutes or so. Others, it’s closer to an hour because I want to take a few notes.

I have read the entire New Testament and much of the Old, but I just don’t know which parts I’ve missed.

So, that’s why I’m setting out to read the whole thing for sure.

I’ve tried some Bible-in-a-year plans, but I always fizzle out somewhere around Leviticus.

Leviticus and Numbers are really challenging books for me to read through and understand, because it just seems so different than today’s times. But I’m finding that just reading through it at a faster pace helps to tackle it.

Some study Bibles are so incredibly thick because of all the reference material and notes.

But if you pick up a regular, no notes added Bible, it’s actually pretty thin.

The Bible in 90 folks have a Bible specifically made with the readings outlined each day so you don’t even need to look it up on the chart. I don’t have it.

Instead, I have a women’s devotional Bible that I got for free from some online promotion. The devotionals actually don’t take up much space at all, so it’s pretty thin. The translation is NIV which, I think, is a great one for quick reading.

I get so tripped up over the language in KJV that it just takes me a lot longer, though I think if you were studying a particular book or topic in-depth, reading the KJV (and others) can help with understanding it.

I’m just searching the archives at Mom’s Toolbox to read what she’s posted for each of the readings, as the blog author led a batch of blog readers through the Bible in 90 back at the beginning of the year. And she’s doing it again in a few weeks!

If you’re interested in joining them, be sure to sign up and subscribe to her blog.

I haven’t read Harry Potter, but if you’ve read the series, then you should know that it’s much longer than the Bible! The Harry Potter series has 1,084,000 words and the Bible has about 775,000.

So really, you can do it. I can do it. It’s worth it!

  1. I’ve always wanted to do this – so I’ll be excited to hear your take on the 90 days! You can do it!

  2. I printed off the plan. I’ll start. Tomorrow? I need to do this and knowing you’re doing it might help. at least that’s what I’m hoping.
