I think that you should totally have a shower - I agree, people want to bless you with something. I felt that registering is a good thing, b/c then you have more of a chance of getting something that you would use/want. People may also buy you clothes too, and that is something that you could use! At a shower that I went to, they had a wishing well - and the theme was to bring your favorite kids book to place in the wishing well - I thought that was a great idea and wished that I had that at mine! :)

I have to say that I LOVED our stroller system - we got a Graco metrolite and it was so useful, especially when the baby fell asleep - he was in the infant seat, so we could just carry him in that into the house and let him finish his nap...or put him in the stroller to stroll around when we were out and about. I still use it with #2 - it works out great. #1 will hold onto the stroller while we walk to wherever we are going. It was $200, but about 7 or so of my friends went in on it and really blessed our socks off, and it did not cost anyone in particular a huge amount of $$.

I also wanted to say that I did both of my labor and deliveries without drugs - and I had men tell me to get an epidural (before I had #1)! I thought that was weird. I really feel that if your mind is set on what you have going on before you and you understand what your body is doing, it makes it "easier" and not scary. The second time around is "easier" than the first, b/c you kind of know what to expect, but it was fine. I read the book Supernatural Childbirth - I recommend it.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy - oh, and I wanted one of the midwives (in my practice) to deliver #2, but she was on call and arrived after the doctor delivered him! I guess I went kind of faster than they expected! :)

You should totally go to the shower. People truly want to do stuff for you, and even though you can afford the stuff yourself, it makes friends and family feel good to help you! I had 3 showers (I live out of town and my hubby is from another city).
And my Mom and Mother In Law really wanted to each have something for me. I had fun, and I'll never forget them! My best friend also had a shower for me! She totally wanted to do it, I didn't expect it and let her know that. I have been amazed at the generosity of friends, family and coworkers. Everyone loves buying for a baby!

Woman, I will personally drive you wherever to make sure you do the shower thing. It's a right of passage. Go with it!

One of these days I hope to get down to 142 lbs. :-) And I don't even have to be preggo! (Actually, my goal is to get down to 150.)

Wow--3 showers! I hope you can fit everything into your car! :)

Not planning on getting a stroller until we're totally sure we want one. We want to carry our little boy when we can, and when he gets too big we'll get an umbrella stroller since they're much less bulky.

Then again, it could be February and we might decide "We want a stroller now!" so we'll get it then, if we want.

I was walking through our mall this weekend and I had to laugh at how many strollers were empty. Either the kids were walking alongside or were carried.

Nobody has personally said anything negative to me about wanting to have an unmedicated birth, but I haven't told many either.

I think if I encounter someone who says, "You'll be sorry! You'll be begging for drugs!" then I'm probably not talking with someone who really wants to learn about natural childbirth anyway. Depending on my mood, I might be a bit snarky and either laugh really loudly and walk away or say something like, "I eat pain for breakfast. Every day."

Cuz what in the world do you say to someone like that?!

Sounds like things are moving nicely along! I'm going home for a visit next month and I'm going to have 3 showers! Its a good excuse to get together with friends and family although I'm worried about transporting items back here. Are you going to get a stroller? I love to jog so I'm already itching to get back into that after our baby is born. We'll probably carry her in a sling a lot but I know a stroller will come in handy for long walks/runs.
Oh and I read the "Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way" and I really liked it. Have not checked out the other one but I'll see if my library has it. Btw, have you had anyone react strangely to you wanting to go au natural? The lady at the library saw my book selection and kept going on and on how painful it was and how I would be "begging for the drugs". Gee thanks for the encouragement, stranger! Anyway, this has gotten long but I wanted to see if you had heard any of that.
