I hope you find a good doula, I have a feeling that will make all the difference. (Just having someone with more knowledge who you feel like is there for you, instead of needing to rely on the doctor so much.)

That is a good point, Jessica. I probably will just see my doc for a few minutes while in labor, and then she'll be in the catcher position she'll be there more.

I guess I just get the luck of the draw when it comes to which labor nurse I get!

I think I will hire a doula, someone I'm comfortable with in a normal setting, so that when I'm in labor and stuff she'll for sure be a trusted helper on my side.

Gah! So many unknown factors.

You know, in my one experience (so far) with childbirth, i found the doctor not to matter nearly as much as the nurse. My prenatal nurse was incredible! And the nurses who helped me deliver David were awesome, too, and held my hand and helped me and were supportive and excited, all things my dr. was too busy to be, i guess. The nurses definitely seemed to be the ones in charge.

If you don't like your doctor, though, 15 weeks is still plenty early to switch, and any new Dr. or midwife you'd see would still have plenty of time to get to know you and baby.

Good luck!

Yeah, our insurance covers OB expenses, but doesn't say anything about midwives. I would have to double check that when the time came.

I hope you find someone who you like and are comfortable with.

I'm thinking that's the route I'm going to go. It seems like the liklihood of unwanted interventions will go down with a nurse midwife.

There is a group of midwives that deliver at the hospital I want to be at, so now I just need to find out what our insurance will cover and stuff.

Are you set on using an OB? What about a nurse midwife, who may be more attentive to you? I've been reading up on what kind of health care provider I want to use myself for when I get pregnant one day.
