13 weeks!

June 24th, 2008

According to some web sites, the 13th week + 3 days marks the beginning of the second trimester. Others say 12 weeks; still others say 14. What?

All I know is, I’m in my 13th week now! I’m just about 1/3 of the way there, give or take.

Last week, I mentioned that I was getting my energy back. Well, that was just a teaser. I’m not exhausted like I have been, but I’m still finding daily naps are pretty much a necessity.

Not looking all that different from last week. I have a slight pudge in my lower abdomen, but I’m fairly certain it’s mostly (if not entirely) bloat. Yay, bloat.

My jeans fresh out of the dryer are too tight to button. But, they don’t typically have a lot of give to them anyway. I tried out my belly band with it, and it held up my pants nicely.

So, I’m just twiddlin’ my thumbs, waiting for my belly to pop out. I’m sure when I’m at 36 weeks, I’ll be thinking about my smaller days.

Yesterday morning at around 8, I really wanted a pizza from Papa John’s. Um. They don’t open that early. I’ll order a pizza (I won’t be able to eat the whole thing, I swear) for dinner tonight. Mmm, garlic butter!

Here’s what the baby is up to (from BabyCenter.com:

Fingerprints have formed on your baby’s tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head — which makes up just a third of her body size now. If you’re having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries. Your baby is almost 3 inches long (the size of a medium shrimp) and weighs nearly an ounce.

Aww! A shrimp!

Yay! Second tri. For me, that means feeling a bit better, but quite a bit more emotional. It’s a give-and-take.

Oh no, not the bloat… for me it lasted throughout the entire pregnancy…. both times! So be prepared for it to possibly stick around.

But on a positive note, with both of my pregnancies, most of my weight gain was water weight. So after both kids were born, the water completely drained and I was back to my pre-pregnancy size right away.

Hehe, I too was weighing the baby or bloat issues (for me drinking lots of water helped, but only try that at home!)

I found a great simple explanation of the three ways trimesters are calculated here.

Glad things are going well, hope you enjoy your pizza!

Congrats on the little one on the way! From what I understand, and what I remember my wife going through, the second trimester is the easiest. Enjoy it all. It all goes by so fast!
