I completely fail at voting

poll1.jpgWell so much for me voting in the Pennsylvania primaries today.

I looked up my polling site on Google Maps, and I also plugged the address in to my GPS. Not an easy place to find. There are actually two identical addresses just a few miles from each other, but with different zip codes.

The polling place was a Catholic school, but it definitely wasn’t accessible from the street address I was given. You could sort of see it, though.

I had to drive a few blocks to the east, turn on a completely different street, and then wiggle my way through the parking lot. As there were no signs saying “Vote here!” or anything, I asked a nun if I was at the right place. She directed me around the building.

I saw one political sign planted in the lawn for a person named Walco, I think.

There were no campaign volunteers outside holding signs. I was hoping for a crowd or something. When I last voted in Indiana, there were all sorts of supporters outside in the rain, and it wasn’t even a presidential election.

I walked through an open door (still no signs) and found my way to the school gym, where the voting was taking place. I was the youngest person in the room by at least 40 years.

Apparently, when I registered to vote last summer, I didn’t choose a party. Whoops. I don’t even remember having the option to. In PA, you can’t vote in the primaries unless you’ve declared “Republican,” “Democrat,” or “Independent.”

So dangit, I completely failed at voting in the primary. I’m so disappointed. If I still live here in November (hoping I don’t!) I’ll be able to vote in the general election no problem. And, against all odds, if I’m still living in this apartment during the next primary, I’ll be sure to update my voter registration thing so I’ll be affiliated with a party.

I contacted both the Obama and Clinton campaigns to tell them how much trouble I had finding the polling location. Maybe they can run out and plant some signs or something.
