Food is my favorite thing

February 11th, 2008

Sometimes, I crave certain foods, and I can’t stop craving them until I eat them. It drives me sorta crazy.

For example, tonight for dinner, I made steak fajitas. They were delicious, but I also wanted a certain type of light salsa to go with them. You know–the kind that isn’t too runny, that’s mostly chopped tomatos, onions, green onions, green peppers, a spritz or two of lemon/lime, and a touch of salt. That’s what I wanted. I thought they had it at Aldi–no. Went to Giant Eagle–no.

Darn! I was going to make my own, but the tomatoes didn’t look good. Arg.

On the topic of fajita-like food, I would like two steak tacos from Moe’s.

I haven’t eaten at Moe’s since I lived in Bloomington. There’s one like 20-30 minutes north of me, and the next time I’m up that way, I’m going to have to get a couple of tacos.

But not just any ol way.

No. I want them my way.

Traditionally, for the tacos they glob on sour cream and guac at the end. Plop.

Instead, I want them to put the sour cream and guacamole on first: Spread sour cream on one half of the tortilla, and guac on the other half. It makes for a more flavorful bite all-around, and it keeps everything together better.

Next, add the steak (no beans, please). Then the cheese, so it has a chance of melting some. Then salsa. Then, get in mah belly!

Tonight, I was thinking about shrimp. I would like coconut shrimp in pina colada sauce, and also few in cocktail sauce with a wedge of lemon on the side. The pina colada sauce should have bits of pineapple in it–just a flavor of pineapple won’t do.

For variety’s sake, I would also like some unbreaded shrimp and regular beer-battered shrimp, which I would like to eat plain or in the sauces I mentiond above.

That about sums up my current cravings. Why, oh why, can’t I crave something that’s actually in my kitchen? Life would be so much easier that way.

I totally feel ya. I get that way at least once a week. The good thing is, lately I haven’t been craving sweets, like ice cream and such. But I don’t turn them down, either… :-(

I crave specific restaurants’ foods, too. There’s a taco and burger place next door to each other just a few minutes away from here. I crave both on a regular basis, particularly when I don’t want to cook.

I know the feeling! And as for the tacos, I make mine the same.. no big glob of sour cream and guacamole… spread it out evenly on either side. I do my fajitas that way too. If I actually craved what was IN my kitchen, it would save me a lot of money.

Yum. You just made me hungry for fajitas, arguably my favorite food in the world. don Pablos has incredible fajitas and they come out sizzling. My mom also makes great fajitas, which she funnily enough marinades in Italian dressing. Every time i try to make fajitas though, my kitchen smokes up and the fire alarm goes off and they just don’t taste they way i want them to.
i might be a brat and try to convince my parents that they’re hungry for don Pablo’s (and to invite me, as well.)
