Earlier this week, my in-laws came up to watch the kids for awhile. I took the opportunity to get out and do some solo shopping. I hit a consignment store, a Goodwill, Marshall’s, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond and was all shopped out. I’m a speed shopper usually, because if I’m with my kids I know I’m racing the clock. By myself, I’m even faster.
I bought a few decorative things for the house: a rug for our office/den/still don’t know what to call this room, some artwork for the kids’ bedrooms, a bedskirt for Johnny’s bed (I’m surprised at the difference it makes in his room!), and a new laundry basket since a certain someone threw my old one over the stair railing and it cracked. I’m still using the basket, but not for clothes since that’s too heavy for it. It’s sitting in a closet holding paperwork I need to sort.
Last weekend, I was browsing a clearance shelf at Meijer and I picked up a bedskirt for my own bed that was marked down to $8. What a deal! Those things can be ridiculously expensive. I picked up two Euro pillows with cases. The pillowcase pattern is ok, but mainly I bought the pillows because they were cheaper with those cases on clearance than plain Euro-style pillows were — about $4 cheaper per pillow. Deal.
We filled the back of our van with more standard-size pillows to stuff in shams for the guest room, Johnny’s room and my room. Better looking for the beds and more comfy, plus now we can make awesome forts.

I’m finishing my retirement guide next Wednesday and will be wrapping it all up. Is there anything else you’d like me to talk about in that post? Thanks for sticking with me through it. I know retirement isn’t everyone’s favorite topic, but it’s an important one and I’m working hard to make it a useful series.
I was listed as an editor’s pick in the previous Carnival of Personal Finance hosted at Girls Just Wanna Have Funds. Thank you! I’m also preparing to host Monday’s edition, so be sure to get your submissions in so I can link to you. I’m not going to host any more carnivals for awhile, in case you were wondering :)
