Weekend reading: Too much sent to the IRA edition

Johnny enjoying the snow

Some great articles across the interwebs this week. I’m only linking to a few, so not to overwhelm. I’ve been sharing plenty of good reads on Twitter, too. Are you on there?

In this week’s money fail — I set up an auto withdrawal from our checking accounts to my IRA. I promptly forgot I did this. Then, on payday, I manually sent money to the IRA. The good news is my old self will thank me for the extra bit of money in the IRA. The bad news is we have a lot less cash to float us through until next payday. Doh!

We are still waiting for all the kinks to be worked out in our new cash flow system. It’ll be great to have everything automated, so long as I remember not to manually transfer money without really meaning to.

  4. Thanks so much for including my post! We’re so excited to have that extra cash to pay down some more debt. And I’m also relieved that I’m thinking more about our finances and trying to be conscious of where “extra” money like this goes. No more “lost” money!

  5. Thank you for including me. If you can make it without the money you sent to the IRA, definitely keep it in there.

LOL about your IRA automatic withdrawal. I made a double payment once on a student loan. That month was a little rougher than others but in the end I did thank myself. At least now you will remember about the automatic withdrawal!

  7. If you can get through the month on the cash you have left then it may have been one of the best mistakes you ever made! Still not something you want to make a habit of and as you said it is just teething problems.
