A time to save and a time to spend

Good news! I bet all our savings on Animal Kingdom and now we are rich and don’t have to worry about money anymore.

Instead, we’re packing up our belongings this week and ticking off more things on our to-do list.

It’s kind of a weird feeling to go from “save our cash” mode to “it’s time to spend it for it’s intended purpose” mode. Our bank account ain’t gunna know what hit it when the dust settles.

When I tally up all of our pending expenses with the move and all it involves, deposit on our new apartment, extra rent on our current one for not giving long enough notice, another car, new vehicle registration, licences, insurance, and etc. it’s like, “WHOA.” And then there’s the whole “get a mortgage” thing that we’re also hoping to do soon.

I can’t let the bleeding bank account make me feel panicky. This is the whole point of our savings. We had been saving money so that we could afford to move. We knew we’d need another vehicle. We knew we’d want to buy a house shortly after.

Our savings goals are finally being put into motion now. Time to spend.

  1. It is definitely unsettling, to watch all that hard-saved cash dwindle away when you’re used to a much higher bank account balance. But, this is what you’ve earmarked the money for, and now that The Time Has Come, it’s time to part with it. I’m having the same feelings about money we saved for a huge home improvement project- the receipts have been coming in, and the numbers are big, but I have to keep reminding myself, This is OK. We saved for this. The money’s there.

  2. I totally agree. We saved up the money to meet our health insurance deductible to pay for this baby, and as the bills come in I freak out more and more. The baby isn’t here yet, but the medical bills for other stuff are. I know the money is there for this purpose and that we will only owe a small percentage after we pay the outstanding medical bills, but I am totally freaking out about watching that hard saved money go away. Thanks for letting me know I am not alone in this money panic problem.
