I received one Go Green Pocket Diaper to review, and the company has offered to give away one diaper to one of my readers.
This diaper is a one-size-fits-many pocket diaper that comes with one microfiber insert. I received two inserts for my review. The rise adjusts with snaps (3×3), and the diaper fastens closed with two horizontal snaps on each side. There are 8 spots for snaps along the top.
Probably the most appealing thing about this diaper is the price. You can buy one for $9 or $10 each, depending on the style. If you buy a bulk package, the cost can be as low as $8.50 per diaper!
With a cost so low, you have to wonder — how is the quality?
My son has worn it three times and from what I can tell, the diaper is reasonably well-made. I think you can expect it to last for one child’s diapering years though it’s certainly possible it will hold up for second children. I can’t really say, obviously.
I received a “fuzzy” diaper and wow, it’s soft inside and out! It’s lined with a fleecy inner, and the outer is like a velour. Super soft. My son seems to appreciate it. The company also offers a “silky” option.
And the patterns? Cute! Ours is leopard print. He looks like Bam-Bam from The Flintstones. He calls it “funny!” It’s our only patterned diaper and I think he’s pretty impressed. In fact, it was laying in a stack of other diapers on a chair and he just went over and is fiddling with it now.
My son is 22 months and something like the 95th percentile for height and around the 75th for weight. I think. He is quickly outgrowing some of our other one-sized pocket diapers (BumGenius 3.0 and Smartipants). The Smartipants are a really tight fit on him and they leave marks now, so I think we’ll have to retire them. The BumGenius still fits ok, but it’s snug and it’s only a matter of time before I have to stop using it, too.
The Go Green diaper? Plenty of room to grow. In fact, I have it on the medium setting for the rise with him. When it was on the largest setting, I got “wing droop” so I adjusted it to the medium rise and it fit him quite well. In the picture, it is on the largest rise setting with two inserts.
I am really curious to see how they fit on a few-months-old baby. I think it might take a little more time for a baby to fit into this diaper, but perhaps not. I don’t have experience with cloth diapers on babies younger than 6 months…yet.
During my three tests, I had the diaper on him twice during the day and once for a nap that went a few hours. All three times, the two inserts were sopping wet but his bottom felt pretty dry thanks to the lining material. We don’t do cloth for overnights anymore because it would be a massive diaper and I want him to be comfortable enough to sleep all night if he can.
I do think the inserts are as absorbent as any other microfiber insert out there. They are three layers thick.
We had no leaks during the tests, despite the sopping inserts.
I didn’t happen to have the diaper on him during a poop so I can’t say anything about that.
Again, I’m just not sure how well this diaper would fit a 2-4 month old (or older, smallish) baby. There still could be a great fit, though!
I love the elastic-y tabs that BumGenius has. I think it’s patented. Anyway, this diaper doesn’t have stretch when it comes to the snaps, but I think you can still get a decent fit.
The bottom (lol!) line:
If you like pocket diapers, I think this is worth checking out. If you have two kids in diapers, so much the better. This is a good diaper to have for your diaper bag (as are any one-sized diapers, I think). Plus, I think this is a good go-to diaper just for whenever your child needs one.
I am of the diapering philosophy that I think it’s better to start slowly and buy a small amount of one type of diaper, try them out for a bit, then buy more if you like them — than to just buy a dozen or two without trying them first. You could get a 3 or 4-pack bundle on the site for fairly cheap (shipping is now $5).
