Review: Go Green Pocket Diapers plus giveaway

I received one Go Green Pocket Diaper to review, and the company has offered to give away one diaper to one of my readers.

This diaper is a one-size-fits-many pocket diaper that comes with one microfiber insert. I received two inserts for my review. The rise adjusts with snaps (3×3), and the diaper fastens closed with two horizontal snaps on each side. There are 8 spots for snaps along the top.

Probably the most appealing thing about this diaper is the price. You can buy one for $9 or $10 each, depending on the style. If you buy a bulk package, the cost can be as low as $8.50 per diaper!

With a cost so low, you have to wonder — how is the quality?

My son has worn it three times and from what I can tell, the diaper is reasonably well-made. I think you can expect it to last for one child’s diapering years though it’s certainly possible it will hold up for second children. I can’t really say, obviously.

I received a “fuzzy” diaper and wow, it’s soft inside and out! It’s lined with a fleecy inner, and the outer is like a velour. Super soft. My son seems to appreciate it. The company also offers a “silky” option.

And the patterns? Cute! Ours is leopard print. He looks like Bam-Bam from The Flintstones. He calls it “funny!” It’s our only patterned diaper and I think he’s pretty impressed. In fact, it was laying in a stack of other diapers on a chair and he just went over and is fiddling with it now.

The fit:

My son is 22 months and something like the 95th percentile for height and around the 75th for weight. I think. He is quickly outgrowing some of our other one-sized pocket diapers (BumGenius 3.0 and Smartipants). The Smartipants are a really tight fit on him and they leave marks now, so I think we’ll have to retire them. The BumGenius still fits ok, but it’s snug and it’s only a matter of time before I have to stop using it, too.

The Go Green diaper? Plenty of room to grow. In fact, I have it on the medium setting for the rise with him. When it was on the largest setting, I got “wing droop” so I adjusted it to the medium rise and it fit him quite well. In the picture, it is on the largest rise setting with two inserts.

I am really curious to see how they fit on a few-months-old baby. I think it might take a little more time for a baby to fit into this diaper, but perhaps not. I don’t have experience with cloth diapers on babies younger than 6 months…yet.

Absorbency:

During my three tests, I had the diaper on him twice during the day and once for a nap that went a few hours. All three times, the two inserts were sopping wet but his bottom felt pretty dry thanks to the lining material. We don’t do cloth for overnights anymore because it would be a massive diaper and I want him to be comfortable enough to sleep all night if he can.

I do think the inserts are as absorbent as any other microfiber insert out there. They are three layers thick.

We had no leaks during the tests, despite the sopping inserts.

I didn’t happen to have the diaper on him during a poop so I can’t say anything about that.

Drawbacks:

Again, I’m just not sure how well this diaper would fit a 2-4 month old (or older, smallish) baby. There still could be a great fit, though!

I love the elastic-y tabs that BumGenius has. I think it’s patented. Anyway, this diaper doesn’t have stretch when it comes to the snaps, but I think you can still get a decent fit.

The bottom (lol!) line:

If you like pocket diapers, I think this is worth checking out. If you have two kids in diapers, so much the better. This is a good diaper to have for your diaper bag (as are any one-sized diapers, I think). Plus, I think this is a good go-to diaper just for whenever your child needs one.

I am of the diapering philosophy that I think it’s better to start slowly and buy a small amount of one type of diaper, try them out for a bit, then buy more if you like them — than to just buy a dozen or two without trying them first. You could get a 3 or 4-pack bundle on the site for fairly cheap (shipping is now $5).

The giveaway:

Just enter your name and email in the comments below. If you wanna tell me anything, cool, but not required. U.S. residents only, please. The giveaway will end on Monday, October 25, 2010 at 5 p.m. Eastern time. I will contact the winner and put you in touch with Go Green Pocket Diapers so you can get your prize.

Thanks for entering, and thanks for reading my blog!

  1. YAY! I want to enter! I like diapers! :) I completely agree about the starting off and trying one before buying a whole bunch. We did that with some Mommy’s Touch diapers (they were on clearance so we bought 9) I hated them and was stuck with them!! Thanks for hosting the giveaway!

  2. I also am a fan of buying one or two of a bunch of different brands to find out what you like. I actually prefer sized pocket diapers and really like Happy Heinys. I would LOVE to give this diaper a try, though :)

  3. I’m hoping to get a variety of diapers and figure out what we like before committing to one “system”. We’re going with prefolds+covers for the little-infant stage, and hopefully that will buy us time to let us figure out what works for us. This would be a great diaper to add to the list to try out!

  4. We’re due any day now and starting off with a few prefolds and thirties covers to see how we like cloth diapering. Although I suspect as baby gets bigger and more “wiggly” we’ll be trying pockets, all in ones, and other styles that may make diaper changes easier. I would love to win a one size to add to our stash! Thanks for the giveaway.

  5. Cute diapers! I love the Fuzzy Green Stars!! :) Thanks for sharing about this company & their affordable diapers!

  6. I’d love to be able to try out this baby on my small-ish baby.

  7. He does look like Bam Bam in the leopard print diaper. You should dress him up as Bam Bam for Halloween. LOL! And then stay inside because he’d probably be way too cold wandering the streets of Pittsburgh in just his diaper.

Now please enter me in this contest, because I like diapers. And my baby is coming in 4-9 weeks. EEP!

  10. I would love the opportunity to try out these diapers! We don’t use cloth diapers now, but this would be a great way to see if we would like to! Thanks for the chance to win!

  11. I have a three month old that I’d be more than happy to try out this diaper on! So, enter me!

  12. I am expecting in April and plan on using cloth diapers this time around. Would love to try this one out.

  13. O O O Me Me Me! Someone just commented yesterday that Cora looked like Pebbles with her ponytail. That diaper would complete the ensemble!

  14. Oooh I want to enter to win a diaper! :-) I bought 12 diapers and used them exclusively for a long time – close to a year – before I began to get bored and started looking around. I still love those diapers, but I’m also happy to have some variety in my stash!

  15. I would love to be entered… I have not tried these diapers, but I would love to try them. I have a friend that is thinking about cloth diapering her twin girls, but funds are low.. these look to be a great affordable option.. I will let her know about them.

  16. Would love to try these!

  17. I would love to try this. Having cloth diapered for 21 months (since my daughter was 3 weeks old) my aplix on my BG 3.0’s are worn enough I wouldn’t use them for Baby #2. I love all the snap diapers I have and want more… This looks like a great brand.

  18. Would love to check these out, thanks for the chance!

  19. I would love to be entered into your giveaway! These are the most adorable diapers and my husband would love me if I could find cloth diapers that weren’t over $20 and still worked well! Diapers at this price really makes it hard for anyone to give the excuse of cost being to much when it comes to switching to cloth!

Thank you for hosting the giveaway!
