Can I sell $500 worth of stuff?

I’m going to try to sell at least $500 worth of stuff that’s just lying around our apartment, unwanted and unused. And if $500 proves to be an easy target, then I’ll bump it up so my goal is a little bit of a stretch.

I’ll put this money toward our house down payment fund.

I’m excited to see the stuff leave! Every thing I sell/donate will be that much less that we have to move later. Love it.

Right now, I have 5 items for sale on eBay. All of them have bids, and if none of them go higher than where they are now, I’ll still get about $100.

I’ve sold some things on diaperswappers.com and have one more set of diapers to try to sell there.

I’m going to keep on listing things on eBay and also craigslist.

I’ll keep a tally and come back and update you when I reach my goal, and let you know what I sold and how much estimated time it all took.

Maybe you have a few things that you’d like to sell. Do it! It’s money in your pocket!

  1. I’ve created a cottage industry out of selling used clothing, jewelry, books, etc. Not just my own castoffs, but good stuff that I find at yard sales and thrift stores. I enjoy the thrill of the hunt, and we appreciate the extra income.

  2. I have a whole closet full of stuff that’s supposed to go on ebay, or in the garage sale. Has that ever happened in 3 years? NOPE! I need to get my butt in gear and change that closet to cash to go in our car fund. I wonder how much my closet’s worth.

  3. What a fun challenge! We are getting ready to have a garage sale next month and $500 would be a great goal for us.

  4. I have several large ticket items (think crystal we’ve never taken out of the box in five years of marriage) that I want to sell before the baby comes in July. Have you had better luck with ebay or craiglists? I can’t decide which I should try first.

  5. Laura since it’s so breakable I’d say try craigslist briefly to see what happens and then go for eBay. Fees on eBay though :(

  6. Why are you selling your diapers? Won’t you need them for your new arrival?

  7. Ericka — I bought too many cloth diapers and there were a few kinds that we never ended up using, or didn’t like too well. So I’m unloading those to make room for the ones that get a lot of use around here.
