Mailing my tax payments today

Nothing like waiting until the last minute to pay taxes, eh?

I used H&R Block online (which I paid for, FCC) to figure our taxes. I completed the process back in February. The federal government owed us $140, and we owed Pennsylvania $152.

I got the federal refund back fairly quickly, and I earmarked the funds to apply to what we owed the state. I didn’t get around to printing documents and writing a check until yesterday, though.

And, I’ll be taking a trip to the post office today to make sure it gets postmarked before tomorrow.

In this area, we have to figure and file our local taxes ourselves. It’s a huge pain. We lived in our current municipality for only half of 2009, so I had to go through a few extra steps to complete the process.

I grumble about figuring my taxes, but I am grateful for traffic lights that work, police officers who respond promptly, roads in reasonable repair, and lots more.

Did you wait until the last minute to file? Or did you take care of it way back?

  1. I actually started filling out the forms online at the beginning of February, but di not hit send until last week (or maybe two weeks ago). I am actually getting a small refund so I have no idea why I waited. I normally get my taxes done within the first two weeks of February as I get all my forms early.

  2. We sent ours on Monday. Finally! We had to physically mail ours because of having bought a house in 2009. We used TurboTax for the first time and I loved it!

I don’t know why we waited until the last minute, either. Especially because we’re getting over $10k back. (Homebuyers’ credit + baby) I hope the refund comes quickly!

  3. We filed as soon as my w2 came – Matts is on Marine net Jan 1st so we just had to wait on mine. Our taxes have been done for awhile.

  4. We did ours back in Feb. DH has it figured so we save through the year so we shouldn’t have to pay any or get any back but with all of the child credits we still got a bunch back!! We were able to remodel our bathroom over spring break.

  5. I’m in the same boat – still working on mine! Did want to add that I am also e-filing and I got a pop up that said if you are filing electronically you have until May 1 to get the check in the mail. I only owe $52.00 but if it was a large amount the extra 2 weeks might come in handy!
