Ive done the cooler outside but with a laundry hamper instead of a cooler. Our cooler is real little (its all we need) and our hamper is on wheels unlike the cooler and can hold more. Our fridge 2 yrs ago died and it took several days to get it fixed. We have a chest freezer and put what we could in the freezer but condiments and little things from the fridge that couldnt be frozen or that we didnt want frozen we put in the hamper and wheeled it out to our deck to stay cold but not frozen there.

Right on, Renee! You sound like you have fantastic neighbors.

One of the perks of living in an apartment building is I have a playdate tomorrow with the neighbor and her toddler. They don’t even need to put on shoes to come over — they can just come across the hall!

I’m making plans with the neighbors. School’s been out for a couple days, and will likely be called off again before the week’s out. Our neighborhood playgroup has decided we’ll meet again this week to help the kids burn off some of their cabin fever. (The kids can’t even really play in the snow because it’s so deep!) We’ve also agreed on a “my freezer/pantry/fridge is your freezer/pantry/fridge” policy in case we’re stuck without the possibility of a last minute grocery run for that one ingredient. In case of long-term power outages, one house has a gas fireplace, and another has a wood-burning fireplace and half a cord of wood. I’m so thankful for the community support system, especially since I’m 7.5 months pregnant, and another one of the moms is in the throws of morning sickness!

I wish we could get even 1/4 of your snow. We haven’t had ANY this season.

Our power did go out though…for more than 12 hours. :( It sucks. And it’s not cold here so no chance of sticking things outside. We have a generator and hooked up the fridge and freezer. Even with the generator (hot coffee and a microwave!) it wasn’t fun. I used to enjoy power outages when I was a kid. LOL

That storm is gonna hit us tonight into tomorrow here in NJ. They’re saying anywhere from 12 to 20 inches. Ugh.

No snowstorms, but power outages from hurricanes. I’m thinking that being hot with no power may be better than being frozen. But all the food goes bad too when it’s hot. I must agree with you about snow. All my southern friends (and especially my kids) would love snow. Not me! Hope you stay safe and warm inside until this passes.

Wow, that is a lot of snow! It’s snowing here (Wisconsin) as I type, but we’re *only* supposed to get 5-8″ and the last snow missed us completely. I’m staying home today :)

We have not had bad snow like you did but one thing I did get was one of those crank flashlights (from Walmart). It has LEDs and is very bright and it helps for those times when you run out of batteries.

I’m glad you guys are safe and warm! When I was in 7th grade, we were hit with a snowstorm that knocked our power out for 4 days. Thankfully, we had a fireplace, so we stayed warm. As for the stuff in the freezer, my mom emptied all of it out and stuck it outside in a cooler in the snow. It worked.
