Start your taxes now, because…

I’m glad I started the process of filing our taxes this week. Turns out, there’s an error on Shane’s W2. One box has some numbers transposed. Lovely.

We need to get a corrected W2 and such. I hope it doesn’t take long! I want my refund already.

I’m glad I didn’t wait until the last minute before seeing this mistake. That would have been even more hassle.

Have you started your taxes yet?

Edited: I found out why the W2 was funny. Turns out, Pennsylvania doesn’t recognize bus passes as deductible (or something) and I guess the federal does? Shane gets his bus pass through work and the cost is deducted from his paycheck. Who knows. I guess I can forge ahead with our taxes!

  1. Our refund should be in our account tomorrow. Glad you figured out the problem.

  2. We’re still waiting on one more piece of info but then I’m going to have to deal with it. Yuck.

  3. I start getting my stuff in order in January. I go through the stuff I have on file, prepare my P&L, and put things in a folder to take to the accountant at the end of February (the 25th this year). Then, as more 1099 and other tax stuff comes in, I add it to my folder. Doing this allows me to add stuff as I remember it or as it comes in, so that when I do get to the accountant, he doesn’t have to send me back for additional documents.

  4. I started our taxes in January even though we can’t file until April 20th.

I went to fill out an extension request but, lo and behold, you don’t have to do that if you are owed a refund!

The reason we have to wait is that my husband’s student loans are in the process of rehabilitation and his last rehab payment before it goes back into the “regular” student loan system is April 18th.

We may wait until May just to make absolutely certain our refund doesn’t get confiscated (again)!
