Glad to see it's been cleared up somewhat. I collect vintage clothing and housewares (as well as buying lots of regular clothes second hand) and am glad to see that the thrift stores won't be shut down because of this. Phew!A Mama's Rant's last blog post..My latest at the Rocky Mountain Moms Blog

Boy, there has been a mass of confusion – and panic – for weeks over this. I'm so glad thrift stores won't be forced to dump children's clothing. If not for places like Goodwill and Value Village, some kids wouldn't have clothes at all. These stores are lifesavers for those living on the financial edge, and great resources for those who want to live frugally and/or want to recycle.

Thanks for the hat-tip, Kacie.<br

Doesn't really excuse the lack of forethought when the language could have been more clear from the very beginning, BUT.... *sigh* The whole thing is still bothering me but at least it's being addressed now.On the flip side, in reference to the toys in the resale shops: I would hope that management or owners would have already taken the time to get themselves on the recall email lists via the CPSC and similar forums. They should already be checking items to make sure they aren't recalled before they accept them for consignment or purchase them for resale in their shops as a method of protecting themselves. If they are not already doing this, hopefully the CPSC and other agencies (business groups, etc) will encourage them to do so. After all, no one wants to take in a stroller for resale and then have a customer's child get hurt by it when it could have been prevented by a retail resale shop knowing about the recall - it wouldn't only apply to lead paint but to general health/safety issues and would keep them informed and their business safer from liability.Just my .02 - or .05 with inflation. ;-)

I can understand that the vague wording (or overly generalized wording, pick your phrase) *could* imply the clothing issue, but I personally think the “products” they meant to refer to originally were the things like toys, jewelry, and furniture that were marketed to/for kids that were coming out painted with lead paint. They still can't technically sell used clothing for children (or toys or any other item) because there's no way to "prove" the lead content. The whole law is insane.castocreations's last blog post..A New Selling Venue - 1000Markets

This hardly gives the thrift shops a pass.
