Most Burger Kings have a similar program. I think it’s a free Whopper or Chicken sandwich if you call and take a survey. I’ve never done it, though, because they expire and I usually wouldn’t use it in time.

Re: tipping. I don’t usually tip at coffee shops and ice cream places, however, if a server goes above and beyond the line of duty or my order was particularly difficult and they got it right, I will tip. I don’t think tipping in these situations should ever be expected, but I do like rewarding “good behavior”. Also, there’s this local ice cream place by me and their “kids cones” have enough ice cream to feed an army. I always tip there because, even after the tip, I’m getting a great deal on some quality ice cream. And the high school kids that work there are always appreciative.

Hmm. I don’t agree with your statement about tipping people such as baristas. In coffee shops and similar places, I don’t think tipping should be obligatory, but I think it’s a good practice. I’ve been a barista before, and the wages are small. For good, attentive service, I think it’s a kind gesture to add a little to my bill (I certainly appreciated it when I was serving coffee!). I enjoy tipping, and I budget for it. I don’t often buy $4 cups of coffee, but when I do, I’m pleased to hand over a little extra to increase the minimum wage of someone who’s standing on their feet all day. Am I overcharged for coffee at Starbucks? Absolutely. That’s why it’s a once-a-month treat for me. Is that high price tag reflected in the barista’s paycheck? Nope. And when they give me pleasant service, I like tipping. Certainly not everyone shares my view, but tipping can enhance my experience, even though my budget is very small.

Just another way to look at it. :)

I’ve been guilty of buying something because it was a great bargain rather than if I really needed it. I still get that itch but I’m much better able to control myself now.

I like your idea about not even looking at the price to figure out if you life. I’ll try that in the future. I definitely think it’s smart to take a long look at the item without knowing the price to really figure out if you actually want it.

I think I’ll have to look at the price before I try it on, though. It would be a lot harder for me to say no to a high price if I’d already tried something on and it looked great on me, you know? Not only that, but trying stuff on is a hassle that I’d rather avoid if the price is too high.
