Our free trip to the Pittsburgh Zoo

July 20th, 2008 at 4:12 pm

Shane and I went to the Pittsburgh Zoo yesterday, and we got in for free! His company rented out the zoo from 5:30 p.m. to 9, making admission free for its employees and families.

Since the zoo closes to the general public around 5:30, that means we got to avoid the big crowds and the heat of the midday sun as well.

With adult tickets costing $12 each, we were glad to save $24 and have fun watching the animals.

Here’s a few photos I snapped:

The gorilla was rolling over, scratching its back and eating some broccoli.

The beaver family made us laugh. The mama beaver kept pushing her babies to the shore, then hoisted them up, carrying them to a spot near their dam. She got back in the water, and the babies just followed her right back in! She repeated her pushing and carrying sequence at least three times while we were watching. I’m sure that’s one tired mama!

That sounds like too much fun! I love going to the zoo, but I don’t know of any free programs around here.

That gorilla picture had me laughing, because he looks like he’s tickled about something (instead of lounging on some broccoli). I loved the beaver picture, too. She looks like she’s doing arm curls with her baby!

How in the world are people supposed to afford to pay $12 each? Glad ya had a great time! The zoo is always a wonderful day activity.

Wow that is great. Adult tickets here in Sydney Australia cost around $36!!!
So if I got a free trip to the zoo I would jump on it. However recently I bought one of those savings books (where you get loads of dockets) and it has a buy one free ticket for the zoo. So I am looking forward to going soon

I remember 2 years ago, my family of 5 went to a waterpark. We paid full price, and found out later in the day the reason the place was so packed. Everyone else got in for 99¢ due to a radio promotion. We had no idea and paid full price. It was near $100. What a waste. It really pays to find the deals.

Wow, the Pittsburgh Zoo is way more impressive than the Fargo Zoo. But also twice as expensive…Congrats on the free fun!
