July was a good enough month. Here’s a recap of our month, including what’s ahead for August.
We had some cheap fun picking blueberries at an orchard. Relaxing, and cheaper than the pre-picked berries. They didn’t last long in our apartment–we ate them as they were, put some in pancakes, put them on cereal, and put [...]

Oftentimes, frugal folks like to make repairs or do projects themselves to save some money. In certain circumstances, that’s a bad idea.
Take today for example.
I was walking out to Shane’s car to put a box in his trunk. The car was wrecked in February and has been sitting for quite some time (really long story). [...]

I’m “Twittering” with more regularity now, and I can see why so many people like it! It’s a fun way to say little bursts of things to your friends and fellow bloggers.
I’ve got to admit, it took me awhile to figure out how to do it, and what the big deal was.
Check out this post [...]

With five minutes to go, my heart began to pound. Sweat moistened my palms, and I wiped them from time to time before pressing “F5″ to refresh my internet browser.
An eBay auction was ending soon, and I wanted to win.
WIN.
My prize? Getting to pay the price I wanted for a pair of long Gap maternity [...]

I took a risk by buying a pair of damaged pants on eBay. These were dark black, long and maternity–exactly what I was seeking. This style of Gap pants came out earlier this year, and the pair seemed to be in good condition…
…except it had a bleach spatter near the waistband.
Bleach turns black [...]

I’m not quite to the point of needing maternity clothes, but I know that the day will come soon when my regular clothes no longer fit.
I’ve never enjoyed shopping for clothes, and I certainly don’t want to spend much money on items I’ll get to wear for just a short time.
Here are some ideas for [...]

It’s a rainy day here in Pittsburgh–perfect for me to finish cleaning out a closet and deciding what in the world to do with, well, a closet full of junk that I’ve been hauling from one apartment to another for the past few years.
Yesterday, I discovered that I still had my shower shoes from freshman [...]

Y’all know how much I really wanted to try using cloth diapers with our baby. After hearing a bunch of nay-sayers tell me I’d be nuts to try it without a washer/dryer in our apartment, and folks telling me I can get disposables for cheap by combining coupons with sales at drugstores, I’ve decided to [...]

Shane and I went to the Pittsburgh Zoo yesterday, and we got in for free! His company rented out the zoo from 5:30 p.m. to 9, making admission free for its employees and families.
Since the zoo closes to the general public around 5:30, that means we got to avoid the big crowds and the heat [...]

Shane and I are excited that we almost have our six-month emergency fund in place. We anticipate it will be complete sometime in August, and right now we’re trying to decide how we’ll divert our extra money once we’re no longer putting it into emergency savings.
We found that focusing our money on one goal helped [...]

In this area, I’m starting to see truck commercials advertising 0% financing for six years.
I’m sure this promotion is designed for people who want to buy a car, but hate the thought of paying 7% interest on a car loan for 72 months. The thought of 0% interest for the life of the loan probably sounds [...]

In the past, I’ve mentioned that it’s a good idea to keep track of your rebates to ensure you actually do get your money back.
I’ve also mentioned that Rite Aid is one of my favorite drug stores.
I bought a certain type of toothpaste last week and two other free-after-rebate products, submitted my receipt info online [...]

I think $10,000 in debt feels way different than $10,000 in savings would.
With $10,000 in debt, it looms over you like a dark cloud or an unwelcome houseguest. Interest rates on debt are typically much higher than they are for a savings account, so just by making a minimum payment of $250 at 14 percent [...]

Blogger Sheer Blind Luck at My Financial Goal had a great question:
When you’re dating someone, at what point do you start talking about money? My boyfriend and I know each other’s habits, but I don’t feel right talking to him about what I think he should do with his money. For example, he was looking [...]

I hopped over to CVS to use some soon-to-be-expired Extra Care Bucks (I had $12 worth). I bought:
: CVS pantiliners $0.99 (got $0.99 in ECB back)
: Suave body wash on sale 2 for $4; I bought 2 and used a BOGO coupon and a $0.50 off coupon making those $1.50 total
: Softsoap body wash $5.49 [...]

A reader e-mailed me a question, and I’m not really sure how to answer her. I’m hoping you can provide some insight in the comments. Thanks!
I’m having a hard time getting my husband to get on my level of frugality. He’s very into materials and I’m more into simple living. I’ve tried handing over the bills, [...]

If you read my blog in a feed reader (thanks, by the way!) then you’ve probably noticed the last few posts have been messed up. I WANT to have posts displayed in full, but something is causing the posts to be cut off. I’m working to fix this, because I can’t stand reading blogs with [...]
