Many years ago I shared an apt and my roommate owned a Sanyo. It was great, but the matching drier about gave us asthma--it vented into the air. It was ok when I ran it out on the balcony!! If it's not in your lease, don't be so sure that you can't have it in your apartment! Legally, you haven't agreed to any of the so-called rules unless they are in your lease.Me? I have a portable, and I don't really care what my landlord says. Maria-

I really hope I can find a solution. I’ve spent the last few hours trying to find a decent apartment or rental house in an area that’s convenient to the bus line, a safe area, with a dishwasher and washer/dryer, that’s the price of our current rent or cheaper.

So far, I haven’t found anything. Frustrating!

We might be stuck here for awhile.

Well, look at it this way, maybe you’ll move soon and your new apartment will have a washer and dryer, and you’d have to sell the portable one!

I had a Kenmore portable in my 580 sq. foot apartment for about 6 years. It saved a lot of quarters and I liked not having to haul my clothes through the building. It was smaller, so I had to do more loads than with a full size washer, but it was worth it. It was definitely a tight squeeze, though.
