Often times lots and LOTS of packaging is used to mail those samples (for example, I requested a sample of eye drops and the bottle held less than a teaspoon of liquid was wrapped in a box that was 4x6x3 inches with lots of non-reclyclable paper and plastic packaging inside--ridiculous!). It's bad for the environment, it's more that you have to throw away, and if you don't really need it, it's just clutter.
