April showers

April 1st, 2008 at 5:04 pm

Some people enjoy taking a long, hot shower to wash away the day. Others might use their time in the shower as a way to wake up and (and wash, of course).

As for me, I tend to shower at night so that I can just let my hair air-dry. Plus, it helps me fall asleep.

In an effort to be more aware of my water usage, I’ve decided to keep track of how often and how long I shower during the month of April.

I think I spend about 10 to 15 minutes in the shower, but that’s a total guess at this point.

I’ll use my cell phone timer to tell me just how long I’m bathing, with the goal of shortening my time.

My aim is to conserve water and energy. We don’t have a separate water bill, and I don’t know how much electricity we’ll save, but every little bit adds up!

Wow.. I wouldn’t go that far to conserve water and energy.

Most of the time, spend less daydreaming and less singing during a shower, and you’ll find out that you don’t really need to shower that long! :D

One of the things we did when we built our house was to put all of our bathroom fans on 15-minute timer switches. If the timer goes off before you’re done, you’ve been in there too long. I now try to be quicker and beat the timer (I’m a nerd, I know!)

I used to take long showers but right now, I would like to help in any way I can to conserve water and electricity. The same goes for my kids, they don’t get to play in the shower anymore…nor sing :-)

I used to work at a camp. We got two minute showers. Fast forward to three years later. The water heater in my rent was broken and gave me about two minutes of hot water at a time. It took six months to get it fixed (horray for living on an island). Once you train yourself, you’ll be suprised how much you can get done in the shower in two minutes. Good luck!

I went through a 2-minute shower period, but I really like something longer because it lets me wake up more. Having Micah in the shower with me saves water a) because we switch off while washing and b) because he likes short showers, oh, and c) no daydreaming, just conversation.

Another thing I do is put on a CD of various songs I like. I know how long the songs are, so I can tell how long I’ve been in the shower.
