I was tagged for a “seven random things about yourself” meme by Vanessa.

I thought I’d put this meme on my frugal blog, instead of my other blog where I write more about myself. To keep it in line with my imposed theme, I’m going to tell you seven things about my money life.

I’m not proud of all of these things, but for the sake of being accountable, I’ll tell you:

1. I got my first real job as a high school senior. I worked at Osco Drug and was a cashier and photo developer person. It was pretty fun. Osco didn’t have awesome rebate programs or anything, though.

2. Working there was a good idea. I saved a lot of money for college, and I was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from Osco corporate headquarters. I got a few other scholarships for school, but this was the biggest.

3. I have a pride problem when it comes to money. I don’t like to accept money from people. I don’t like going out to lunch with someone and having them pay the bill. I’d rather split it. Things like that. I need to be more gracious when people want to buy me things.

4. I got my first credit card when I was 19 or 20. I was responsible with it, for the most part…

5. …until I got engaged. It was my last semester of college, and I wasn’t making much money (and neither was my now-husband). I put various wedding things on my credit card, because it seemed I should do that or postpone the wedding. Since my husband had a job offer 400 miles away, we did not want to postpone it.

6. So I applied for another credit card with a large limit, got it, and charged our honeymoon to it. Oh my gosh. Dave Ramsey would be screaming at me if he found that out, and my parents (Hi, mom!) would probably say “Not a good idea.” The card had a 0% interest introductory rate. We had a limited window of honeymoon opportunity. We went on a cruise to Alaska on borrowed money. Eep. We had the time of our lives, and while I am not proud of taking out credit for it, I don’t regret it. I’ll never travel on borrowed money again, though.

7. It’s now December–seven months after graduation and our wedding. Since then, we have paid off all of our credit cards (several thousands of dollars). We have a small emergency fund started, and no longer use credit cards except for secured Internet purchases (which we pay off before the bill even comes).

There ya have it! Things are looking up in the Kacie household.
