Menu for the week of Nov. 18

November 18th, 2007 at 10:20 pm

mpm3.jpgThis week’s menu is extremely simple.

We’re only going to need two-three dinners, since we’ll be out of town from Wednesday through the following Wednesday.

  1. -Split pea soup $2.62
  2. -Spaghetti $1.25
    -Grilled cheese sandwiches $0.50

Total: $4.37

Last week, I wasn’t sure about how the split pea soup would turn out. It was absolutely delicious, even though it looked sort of disgusting. It was so good, in fact, that I’m going to make it again this week.

Spaghetti is a quick and easy meal, and I almost always have the ingredients on hand. I’ll use half a box of pasta ($0.25) and a jar of sauce ($0.88) and two slices of toast each ($0.12) total = $1.25.

I always have supplies for grilled cheese sandwiches. If I don’t have regular (and healthier) sliced cheese, then I go with Velveeta. One sandwich each will cost less than a quarter each, if I’m extremely generous with the cheese. Total $0.50.
There you have it! The first part of the week isn’t too exciting, but with Thanksgiving just a few days from now, we’ll be eating like champions in no time.

I had to laugh when I saw your link at Laura’s site. We too are having a very short week and therefore a cheap menu.

I made split pea soup before and experienced the same reaction as yours, but was pleasantly surprised upon tasting it.

Your menu looks great.

I love the blog. I’m glad that you stuck with the same color scheme. It’s so feminine. I like it.

I love split pea soup and yes it’s not one of the nicest looking meals, but the taste is well worth it :)
