my matron of honor did the makeup for me and my bridesmaids, and i paid to have all our hair done at the salon (as well as my mom’s). groom’s mom didn’t want hers done (she just wears it down and curled all the time). :)

My friend - a bridesmaid - will be doing my makeup. She’s done it for formals and for my college senior portraits so I know that it will look good up close as well as in photos.

You write that you paid for your bridesmaids’ updos as part of your gift to them. What else did the gift include? I am trying to think of ideas for bridesmaids’ and groomsmens’ gifts (different ones, of course). Suggestions are most welcome! Thanks!

Hi Ms. Miniducky-In case someone wants to use the stylist I did, I don’t want to disclose the price I paid, in case the stylist wants to charge more. I want to eliminate that “But Kacie only had to pay…” protest :)

I don’t know if $250 for five women is a good deal. At $50 a piece, that’s not a deal in my area, but it might be a bargain in yours. I’d shop around some more to see what’s available.

However, if he’s absolutely amazing and will bring an assistant and come to you, it might be worthwhile.

In my hometown, $50/piece would get an up-do at a very nice salon.

Oh, and one more thing I should mention–if you’re hiring someone to come to you, it might be a good idea to have them sign a simple contract. I had no problems at all, but it would be awful if my stylists were no-shows.

It would be good to have a back-up plan just in case, ya know!

That’s a great suggestion. Do you mind sharing how much you were charged for five people total? I spoke with the fella who cut my hair at the beauty school, and he offered to do the bride’s and 4 bridemaids’ hair for $250 (he’ll come to us, and probably bring an assistant), and I wasn’t sure if that was really a deal.

You are right, it is always a good idea to ask around. I had my hair done for years by a mom of 5 kids who was very qualified as a stylist and had owned her own salon before. She just happened to not want to work outside her home so I would go to her home. I could take my kiddos which was great and they played with her kiddos and she and I chatted while she did my hair (coloring and all) on her kitchen chair. Plus the price was much better than a salon!

Very Nice! You both look beautiful :) I was lucky enough to have my husband’s cousin (who went to beauty school) do my hair (and my bridesmaid’s) for my wedding. Free :)

I was fortunate enough to be in a wedding two weeks before my own wedding. A friend of the bride’s was a hairstylist and gave her a discounted rate, which her parents then paid (we brought tips). Anyway, I picked a style which I could also use for my own wedding–and then did it myself. Practiced a lot before, of course.

Thanks so much for dropping the note! So far our wedding budget is $2ooo and we’ve been sticking to it. Over half of this is for the reception. We are having a formal dinner with all of the nice linens and crystal and china so it costs a bit more than usual. My dress was $400 with alterations, and our church is decorated for Christmas very nicely, so we only have to add minimal decorations. My groom to be gets his tux for free through a deal from David’s Bridal, I printed my own invitations that only cost about $100 (and came out gorgeous I must say!), and postage came to about $100 (I used custom printed stamps with our pic on them). We have a bit left over for those last minute things, and I’m so pleased with how everything has turned out. The Lord has blessed so abundantly, even in giving us a beautiful home. It’s such a blessing to see God work!
