Grand opening at Aldi

I just got back from spending money all over the place. First stop: Post office to mail six books for the PaperBackSwap exchange. I can’t wait to get credits so I can get more books I want! Postage was $14.14.

Next, I went to the gas station to fill up. Around here, gas is $3.09. I went to the GetGo gas station, because with my Giant Eagle card, I could get .30 off per gallon. Giant Eagle has a program such that for every $50 you spend at their store, you get $0.10 off per gallon. Over the past few months, I had accumulated that $0.30 discount. At about 11 gallons, I paid $2.79/gallon and saved about $3.30.

Finally, I went to the grand opening of Aldi. What a bright and shiny store! This one is the nicest one I’ve ever been in. There were a lot of people there, and many were first-timers. I’m glad I brought an extra quarter to give to a lady who needed her cart.

She tried to give me .25, but I told her that last time, I needed a cart and someone helped me out, so I asked her to bring two quarters the next time she comes to Aldi so she can help someone else.

When I went into the store, I had my $5 off $30 coupon. When I got to the checkout, I no longer had that coupon. It must have fallen out somewhere in the store. Meep! I hope someone will use it.

I still got a full cart of groceries, and spent $40. Arg. But, if I bought those same items at Kuhn’s or Giant Eagle, I probably would have spent at least $70, if not more.

Since we’ll be gone for a week over the Thanksgiving holiday, we won’t have to spend as much on groceries later this month.

Sorry for the lack of posts today. I’m just uninspired, I guess.

  1. You still did good sounds like!
Wish we had Aldi’s in our area but we dont. Cvs is working the best for me and I just shop at HEB.

  2. They just opened a brand new store in our town too! It is awesome and so clean and I loved everything about it.

Glad you scored such great deals!

  3. I am going to have to go check out our store one of these days. My DH is a little hung up on buying stuff there. But I need to go check it myself and decide. Do you find brand stuff cheaper or their store brand?

  4. Hopefully, your Aldi is newish. They’re all nicer than ya think, though.

Everything that I’ve bought there has been really good. We haven’t regretted a purchase–and don’t forget, Aldi will refund your money and replace the product if you don’t like something.

Their store brands are so much cheaper than regular groceries–even when things go on sale at the regulars.

They don’t carry many brands, it’s usually one brand of each item they stock.

  5. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Aldis – we are a family of 5 and I can get a lot of great deals there that REALLY gets the budget nice a “thin” where it needs to be.

I don’t get a lot of meat from there – I buy it from a local man in town (hormone free/free range and sometimes organic) but I have bought a couple things there when needed and have not had any problems.

    Love your blog Kacie!
