New Aldi store near me! YAAAAAY!

On my way home this afternoon, I spotted an Aldi sign. WHAT?! My map never showed an Aldi there before. Turns out, there’s a new store going in near Northway Mall off of Babcock Blvd. in the north hills of Pittsburgh.

It’s behind (west) of the main Northway mall plaza (the one with the Marshall’s and Value City) in its own building.

I stopped to ask one of the workers when the store would open, and he said he thought it would sometime next week.

This is super exciting for me, because it’s just 10 minutes from home. The Aldi I went to before takes about 25 minutes, and the roads are steep and winding. Most roads are like that here. I was worried about driving to Aldi during the winter months. Now, I won’t have that problem.

UPDATE: Wow! I just got an Aldi ad in the mail. There’s a $5 off coupon, when you spend $30. It’s only good Nov. 8-17 for this new store.

  1. That’s great! Our nearest one is about 30 miles away. :o( How’d you get so smart as such a young age anyway?!!! :o)

  2. Good for you!!! I wish we had an Aldi close by. Our nearest one is near our closest Walmart… 15-45 minutes away (we have to drive through the city). It’s brutal. :)

    Happy for you!

  3. No way! I would be thrilled if I were you! Our nearest Aldi’s is 3 hours away…it’s a very sad situation. :-(

  4. YAY! I love Aldi. I have been shopping there for a couple of years. Ours is about 15 minutes from me.

  5. $5 off…Good for you. I know you’ll put that to good use.

  6. I just got back from the new Aldi’s which is only minutes away from home. I had the $10 of $40 purchase. My bill came to $40.97 so I got everything for $31. They had good prices on what they had but I was surprised by what they didn’t have. I still need lettuce and parmesan cheese. I would have thought they would have that. All in all I was pleased though. I felt like an idiot when I could figure out how to get my quarter back. Someone had to show me! Judy

  7. YAY! I made a price book last night. I have 3 of the 5 stores finished, the other two will have to wait awhile. I couldn’t believe how wrong I was at guessing some of the prices!!
All in all I learned that Food Lion is more expensive than Bi-lo, and Aldi’s, well, Aldi’s is still about 50-70% cheaper.

Thanks for inspiring me to do that! It only took 3 hours! LOL, but it did help me save about $20 this week.

  8. Oh my gosh – I just went on the Aldi website to find the nearest store – And there IS one here! Hurray! I have been doing most of our shopping at Food Lion and Lowe’s Foods but I am definitely going to look into the Aldi store. Do you find that it is consistently cheaper than other stores?

  9. Hi Judy-

My Aldi has Parmesan and lettuce–maybe your store was just temporarily out? Sometimes, things are in places you don’t expect. The Parmesan could be in some totally random place.

Glad to hear about your pricebook! I need to update my online one for sure. It’s amazing to find out “cheap” groceries aren’t actually that cheap.

    Blue Sky-

Yay! I’m glad that you can try out Aldi. Be sure to bring a quarter for the shopping cart and bags to sack up your goods.

The prices overall seem to be cheaper, but sometimes with a good coupon and a store sale, another store will win out. Plus, Aldi doesn’t have everything.
