Keep changing to dry rags as they get wet. If you have access to a carpet cleaning machine with a detachable nozzle, you could flood that particular area with water and keep vacuuming it up... but blot up as much of the detergent and Windex as you can first, or you'll have an even bigger mess! (Don't ask me how I know....)

My WFMW question is "Produce, E. Looks like it'll be a big job. I'll look into carpet rental machines, and definitely clean my apartment with it while I'm at it.

Well goodness gracious! You will need to work at the stain many, many times. First, use only warm water and no cleaning agent. Spray the area with the warm water, then use the machine to pull up the sudsy water. Go over the area several times to remove as much as possible, then treat the area with water only one more time. Repeat the cleanup steps and let the carpet dry. Do not overwet the carpet, or you will have a bigger problem. You may have to do this several times over many days, as the detergent will probably continue to "wick" up.
hope this helps!

okay, i’m a geek and i googled your problem. here’s what hints from heloise said about spilled laundry detergent:<br
